隱匿於都市中的桃花源A Hidden Paradise within the City
A Hidden Paradise within the City
Nestled at the northern tip of the Taipei Basin, Beitou spans an area of 56.82 square kilometers, with its terrain rising from the Guandu Plain to the peak of Qixing Mountain at 1,120 meters above sea level. Within this region, the Datun Volcanic Group provides abundant hot spring resources and mineral-rich soil, fostering a unique ecological environment.
Since the 17th century, Han settlers have cultivated the land, making agriculture a major economic activity in Beitou. Benefiting from its diverse terrain and climate conditions, Beitou once played a crucial role in rice variety improvement. In addition to staple crops, the region historically cultivated flowers, tea trees, Cyperus malaccensis (a type of rush grass), Strobilanthes cusia (Assam indigo), and sugarcane.
Today, Beitou's agricultural products have become more diverse, and local farmers have shifted their focus toward eco-friendly and sustainable farming practices. By cultivating seasonal flavors that reflect Beitou’s unique terroir, they promote sustainable agriculture through food and agricultural education.
Beitou’s agricultural evolution reflects a harmonious coexistence with nature, showcasing its distinctive natural and cultural charm.
